LONG BEACH, Calif. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team recorded one event title and several significant personal-best performances at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State on Friday.
Senior Matti Mortimore was the top collegian in the javelin, throwing 252-0 (76.82m). He remains unbeaten in four meets this season and stayed at No. 2 on the NCAA performance list.
Junior Steffan Stroh launched a new personal-best by five and a half feet in the hammer, reaching 211-6 (64.48m). Stroh placed fourth in a loaded field and now ranks 32nd in the NCAA this season.
Junior Jacob McBride moved up to ninth in NDSU history in the hammer, throwing a personal-best 192-11 (58.80m).
NDSU sophomore Camron Roehl registered a 21-second personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase at Long Beach State, running 9:16.63 to stand at 10th in NDSU history.
In the first 5,000m race of his track career, senior Matt Jennings clocked 14:43.94 – only four seconds away from entering the NDSU all-time Top 10.
NDSU alum and volunteer assistant coach Riley Dolezal defended his Beach Invitational title in the javelin, throwing 252-4 (76.93m) for the win. Junior Austin Schmidt posted a mark of 208-7 (63.58m) to place eighth among collegians in the javelin.
The Beach Invitational will conclude on Saturday, wrapping up competition in southern California for the Bison.
