Weimerskirch Sets School & Facility Records in Hammer, Climbs to No. 13 in NCAA

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State senior thrower Katelyn Weimerskirch extended her school record in the hammer throw for the fourth time in 14 days, leading an impressive showing by the Bison women on Friday afternoon to kick off the Lyle Hokanson Classic.
Weimerskirch threw 207-4 (63.19m) to win the hammer and lead an NDSU sweep of the top six places. She surpassed her previous school record by two and a half feet, and also broke the previous facility record of 195-9 set by Emily Lesser in 2015.
The senior from East Dubuque, Ill., moved up to No. 13 on the NCAA leaderboard this season.
Bison sophomore Maddy Nilles climbed to No. 2 in NDSU history and No. 28 in the NCAA this year, throwing 200-11 (61.24m). Freshman Amy Herrington posted a personal-best mark of 194-0 (59.14m) for third place in the meet and sixth-best all-time at NDSU.
NDSU junior Hannah Frost took fourth place at 187-8 (57.20m). Sophomore Shelby Gunnells placed fifth with a personal-best throw of 186-6 (56.85m) that moved her up to No. 7 in school history. Redshirt freshman Maggie Schwarzkopf finished sixth, throwing 176-0 (53.65m).
The Lyle Hokanson Classic will conclude Saturday at Schlanser Track on the NDSU campus.
