Bison Women Win 9 Events to Close Out Lyle Hokanson Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team hosted its first home meet of the 2017 outdoor season on Saturday, competing in the Lyle Hokanson Classic at Schlanser Track.
NDSU redshirt freshman Bailey DeMar went 40-04.00 (12.29m) in the triple jump – the best mark by a Bison woman in seven years. She now stands at No. 6 in school history in the event.
Junior Lauren Gietzen took first in the pole vault at 13-03.50 (4.05m), and sophomore Klara Lyon set a new outdoor personal-best of 12-09.50 (3.90m) to finish second in the meet and rank fifth in NDSU history.
Bison freshman Lexy Wittmayer (Rolette, N.D.) won the high jump, clearing 5-08.50 (1.74m) to tie for 10th-best in NDSU outdoor history.
Sophomore Shelby Gunnells took first place in the shot put with a career-best throw of 50-10.00 (15.49m), moving into the top 50 in the NCAA this year.
NDSU's pair of Dubuque (Iowa) Wahlert HS alumni finished 1-2 in the women's discus. Sophomore Maddy Nilles was first at 163-6 (49.85m), and senior Katelyn Weimerskirch was second at 162-1 (49.41m).
Rose Jackson, Morgan Milbrath, Gabby Grommesh and Alexis Woods became the sixth-fastest 4x100m relay in NDSU history, winning in 45.76. Grommesh also took first place in the 100m dash in a personal-best 12.02 seconds, and Milbrath was the runner-up in the 200m in 24.42.
NDSU senior Taylor Janssen won the 1500m in a career-best time of 4:32.17. Bison senior Jenny Guibert won the 800m in 2:13.86, and sophomore Annika Rotvold was the runner-up in 2:16.57.
Jackson posted a mark of 19-09.50 (6.03m) to claim the long jump title, and junior Piper Jensen hit a personal-best 18-05.00 (5.61m) for third place. Alyssa Olin was the top collegiate finisher in the javelin, throwing 166-8 (50.81m).
The Bison will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, next weekend to compete in the Drake Relays.
