Bison Tied for Second After Opening Day at Drake's Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - North Dakota State fired a 291 in a windy, rainy second round to surge into a second-place tie after 36 holes Monday, Oct. 1, at the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake University.
North Dakota State scored four rounds of 75 or better in posting the best team score of the day at the par-71 Glen Oaks Country Club. That followed a 307 in the opening round and moved NDSU into a tie with Drake in the 12-team tournament five shots behind first-place Bradley University.
Lucas Johnson led the Bison with 71 in the second round and is tied for 13th overall with a 149. Nate Deziel is tied for 17th place at 8-over-par after rounds of 77 and 73, and NDSU teammates Dax Wallat, Will Holmgren and Andrew Israelson are all tied for 21st place at 9-over 151.
Bison freshman Jed Baranczyk, competing as an individual separate from NDSU's five-player team, shot rounds of 72 and 74 and is tied for third place five shots back of tournament leader Drake Bushong of Bradley.
NDSU's Van Holmgren, also competing individually, is part of the tie at 17th place at 7-over after rounds of 76 and 74.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.
