Bison Men's Golf Opens Fall Finale in North Carolina

POWELLS POINT, N.C. - The North Dakota State men's golf team opened its final meet of the fall season on Sunday at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate held at Kilmarlic Golf Club.

Van Holmgren led the way for the Bison in the first round, as he is tied for 30th with a 75. Holmgren had three birdies on the day. Andrew Israelson was just two strokes behind Holmgren, as he is tied for 44th with a 77. Israelson had a birdie on the 10th hole, while shooting two-over par on the front nine.

Lucas Johnson, Dax Wallat and Will Holmgren are all tied for 61st after they each shot a 79 in the first round. Johnson was one-under par on the five par-three holes, tied for the second best score on the par three holes in the first round. Wallat and W. Holmgren each had three birdies as well.

NDSU is in 16th place with a 310 after the first round, but is just 10 strokes separates sixth place and 16th place after one round. The Bison had 12 birdies on the day, tied for the fifth most after one round. Campbell holds the team lead after the first round with a 277. The Camels have a 10-stroke lead over UNC Wilmington for the lead. Campbell's Jesper Svensson leads the individual race with a 65 after the first round.

The second round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. CT on Monday at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
