POWELLS POINT, N.C. - The North Dakota State men's golf team cut 26 strokes off its first round score on Monday, as the Bison moved up to 10th after two rounds of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
Andrew Israelson led the Bison with a 68 in the second round, tied for the lowest round of the season by any Bison and his season low. Israelson had a team-high five birdies, including closing the front nine with back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine. Israelson is tied for 20th heading into the final round. Israelson shot two-under par on the par three holes, tied for the best in the second round. Van Holmgren is tied for 24th after two rounds, as he shot a 71 on Monday to bring him to a 146 for the two rounds. Holmgren had four birdies on the day, including back-to-back on holes 14 and 15.
Lucas Johnson shot a season-low and tied his best career score with a 69. Johnson is tied for 36th after two rounds with a 148 after using four birdies on Monday to cut 10 strokes off his first round score. Johnson was three-under par in the second round on par four holes, the fourth best score on those holes in the round. Will Holmgren had three birdies in the second round, as he is tied for 68th with a 155 after shooting a 76 in the second round. Dax Wallat rounded out the Bison lineup, as he is in 79th place after two rounds. Wallat shot an 80 in the second round and has a 159 entering the final round.
The Bison will enter the final round in a tie for 10th with a 594 after shooting a 284 on Monday. The 284 is tied for the lowest round of the season for NDSU. The Bison were two-over par on par three holes, tied for the fifth best at the meet. Campbell has the team lead after two rounds with a 546, 23 strokes better than UNC Wilmington. Campbell's Jesper Svensson has the individual lead with a 129 after two rounds.
