Neururer, Gilbertson Lead Bison Charge on Day Two at Summit League Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Senior Matt Neururer won the Summit League decathlon title, and senior Brant Gilbertson claimed the conference crown in the 3000m steeplechase to headline the efforts of the North Dakota State men's track & field team on the second day of the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
NDSU leads the team race after eight events with 133 points. South Dakota stands in second with 83.5 points, and South Dakota State is third with 79.5.
All four Bison men in the decathlon finished with personal-best scores for a 1-2-4-6 finish on Friday afternoon. Neururer scored a career-best 7,152 points to win the decathlon title and rank eighth all-time at NDSU. Junior Ryan Enerson scored a personal-best 7,107 points for second place, ranking ninth in NDSU history. Sophomore Ben Klimpke took fourth, and junior Daniel Asa finished sixth.
Brant Gilbertson ran away with the Summit League title in the 3000m steeplechase, leading a 1-2-5 finish for the Bison in 9:17.66. Junior Camron Roehl took runner-up honors in a season-best 9:18.51, and Alex Bartholomay ran a personal-best of 9:31.07 for fifth place.
The Bison men got 17 team points in the discus with a 2-4-6-8 finish. Payton Otterdahl was the runner-up with a throw of 192-8 (58.73m) that surpassed the previous meet record. Redshirt freshman Alex Talley unleashed a big personal-best throw of 171-6 (52.27m) to place fourth and rank fifth in NDSU history.
Freshman Marcus Walton earned All-Summit League accolades in the high jump, clearing a season-best 6-09.00 (2.06m) to take third place.
The Bison men registered their best marks of the season in the long jump. Kelle'Mon Hinton took fifth (24-00.75), Walton was sixth (24-00.25), and Eric VanErp placed eighth (23-09.00).
The NDSU men also positioned themselves to rack up more points in Saturday's finals with a strong showing in Friday's preliminary rounds on the track.
Brian Ferry (55.29), Connor Wendel (55.62) and Aron Klos (55.69) all advanced among the top five to tomorrow's 400m hurdles final.
Junior Tatenda Dzvokora ran 10.52 in the 100m dash prelims, qualifying to the finals and ranking ninth all-time at NDSU. Dzvokora came back later to also qualify for the 200m dash final in a personal-best 21.42.
Enerson (14.77) and freshman Dominic Martinez (15.15) both advanced to the 110m hurdles finals.
Junior Jacob Richter cruised into the 400m dash final with the third-fastest prelim time at 49.18. Tim Heikkila advanced to the 800m final.
The Summit League Outdoor Championships conclude Saturday.
