FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University men's track & field team will attempt to win its ninth consecutive Summit League outdoor team title at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on May 10-12.
Since joining The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, NDSU has won 9 of a possible 10 team titles in outdoor track & field. The Bison won the championship in their first shot in 2008, and then again each year from 2010-17.
The Bison are joined by Oregon, Liberty and Albany as the only four Division I schools to own current winning streaks of eight or more outdoor conference titles. NDSU won with 253 points last year, and South Dakota State finished second with 199 points.
NDSU will bring eight league leaders into the meet – Jake Leingang (5,000m), Aron Klos (400m hurdles), Brant Gilbertson (3,000m steeplechase), Payton Otterdahl (shot put & discus), Steffan Stroh (hammer), Austin Schmidt (javelin) and Ryan Enerson (decathlon).
The Bison men enter the conference meet with the top four performers in the league in the shot put this season. NDSU also has the top three entries in the decathlon and five of the top seven in the hammer throw.
Men's competition begins at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, with the 10,000m moved to the morning to avoid high temperatures in the evening. The decathlon starts at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with the 100m dash. Updates will be available on Twitter (@NDSUTrackField) throughout the meet and on GoBison.com at the conclusion of each day.
