North Dakota State University throwers Alyssa Olin and Maddy Nilles will represent the Bison women's track & field team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, June 7, at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Olin will be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin, attempting to improve upon her 12th-place finish one year ago. She enters the meet ranked No. 2 in the NCAA this season.
It will be the NCAA Championships debut for Nilles, who enters with the eighth-best mark this season among the 24 competitors in the hammer throw.

Competition Format
Twenty-four women qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in each event through the NCAA Preliminary Rounds format. In the hammer throw and javelin, each athlete will receive three preliminary attempts. The top nine performers will advance to the final round, earning three additional attempts.
All-America Honors
The top eight finishers in all events will earn first team All-American honors, places 9 through 16 will be named second team All-Americans, and all other national meet competitors will receive honorable mention All-American status.
Top Placer
Laura Hermanson is the highest national-meet finisher in NDSU's Division I history, taking second place in the 800 meters at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Looking for the First
Olin and Nilles will be looking to capture NDSU's first Division I first-team All-America honor in a throwing event. Olin's 12th-place finish in the javelin last year is the highest Division I finish by a Bison woman in a throwing event.
Top Throws Program
The Bison women had a nation-best 14 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims. No other women's team in the country had more than 10 this season.
Bison Throwers Top Event Squad Rankings
The Bison women are ranked No. 1 in the country in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings in both the javelin and shot put. NDSU is also ranked second nationally in the hammer throw.
12 in 10 Years
The NDSU women have 12 top-eight finishes at the NCAA Division I Championships (indoor and outdoor combined) since becoming eligible in 2009.
Global Rankings
Alyssa Olin is ranked 37th in the world in the javelin this year. Maddy Nilles is ranked 67th in the world in the hammer throw.
Building Consistency
Olin has four throws over 55 meters this season in the javelin – the most by any NCAA athlete.
Dubuque Wahlert Pipeline
This is the second straight year the NDSU women have sent a hammer thrower from Wahlert Catholic HS in Dubuque, Iowa, to the NCAA Championships. Katelyn Weimerskirch, who now ranks second in school history behind Nilles in the hammer, represented the Bison in Oregon last year as a senior.
22 Titles in a Row
The Bison women have captured 22 consecutive Summit League team titles – 11 indoor and 11 outdoor. NDSU has won every conference title since joining the league prior to the 2008 season.
