NDSU Connects for 3-0 Win Over SDSU to Snap Skid

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State used a balanced attack to connect for a season-high .344 hitting percentage to defeat South Dakota State 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) in a Summit League match played Friday, Sept. 28, before a crowd of 1,021 in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Bison snapped a seven-match losing streak with the win.
NDSU (3-12, 1-3 SL) is scheduled to host league-leading Denver (13-1, 2-0 SL) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The Pioneers are ranked 9th in the current mid-major poll.
McKenzie Burke led the offense with 13 kills and hit .444, while Allie Mauch followed with nine kills and hit .571. NDSU setter Kalli Hegerle had plenty of options for her 36 assists as Alexis Bachmeier had seven kills and Emily Halverson added five. The Bison hit .367 in the first set and finished at .433 in the third.
North Dakota State trailed SDSU 18-16 in the second set but went on a 7-1 run to take control. Alex Erickson, Bella Lien and Mauch all had kills, while Halverson added a block during the rally.
NDSU held an 8-6 edge in team blocks as Lien and Bachmeier each had five blocks, and Halverson added three. Defensively, Abbi Klos came up with a match-high 14 digs followed by Hegerle's nine and eight from Kaylee Hanger.
Sierra Peterson and Ashlynn Smith led South Dakota State (3-13, 0-3 SL) with nine kills. Maddie Fay claimed 24 assists and Ellie Thein had 11 digs.
