Bison Women Start Strong at Dakota Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team won 11 event titles at the season-opening Dakota Classic on Friday inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
Sophomore Akealy Moton threw 55-04.75 (16.88m) to win the shot put – an indoor personal-best that ranks her third in NDSU history. The Bison women swept the top six places in the shot put, with senior Shelby Gunnells taking second at 54-09.25 (16.69m). Sophomore Rachel Bring posted a personal-best mark of 49-08.50 (15.15m) to rank 10th all-time at NDSU.
Bison sophomore Jodi Lipp won the long jump and triple jump, with a personal-best mark of 19-04.25 (5.90m) in the long and 39-02.50 (11.95m) in the triple.
Senior Macy Denzer won the Dakota Classic pentathlon, scoring 3,425 points. The Bison women swept the top three places with Jenna Kes second (3,338 pts) and Kennedi Sand third (3,262 pts).
NDSU sophomore Michaela Baker had an impressive season opener in the hurdles and jumps. She took first in the 60m hurdles in 8.74 seconds and finished second in the long jump (18-8) and triple jump (38-4) behind Lipp.
Senior Jocelyn Dinius won the 60m dash in 7.83 seconds, and was the runner-up in the pole vault at 12-07.50 (3.85m). Bison senior Klara Lyon won the pole vault, clearing the same height of 12-07.50 (3.85m).
Freshman Kendra Kelley (Cloquet, Minn.) won the 200m dash (25.55) and was runner-up in the 60m (7.87) in her Bison debut. Katie Heilman clocked a personal-best 7.94 in the 60m for sixth place.
Daejha Moss and Bailey Cowling both cleared 5-06.00 (1.68m) to tie for second in the high jump.
Bison junior Amy Herrington moved to ninth on the NDSU all-time list in the weight throw, posting a mark of 62-08.75 (19.12m). Sophomore Amanda Anderson threw a two-foot PR, hitting a mark of 57-07.00 (17.55m) for third place.
The Bison women finished 2-3-4-5 in the 400m with junior Alyssa Lind (56.82), freshman Nell Graham (58.03), senior Paige Harris (58.29), and sophomore Grace Zimmerman (58.48).
Unattached NDSU senior Annika Rotvold won the mile in a personal-best 4:46.79, and unattached Bison senior Bailey Retzlaff took the weight throw at 64-08.00 (19.71m).
Freshman Bailee Dierks finished third in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.92 seconds.
