Nilles Extends Weight Throw School Record, Leading Bison Women at UND

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota State junior Maddy Nilles added seven inches to her school record in the weight throw, headlining the performances of the Bison women's track & field team at the UND Indoor Tune-Up on Saturday.
Nilles launched the weight 71-04.25 (21.75m) to take first place in the meet. She now ranks 11th in the NCAA this year, with the top 16 performers in the country earning bids to the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
Bison senior Kelsey Laufenberg posted a career-best in the weight throw as well, throwing 64-11.25 (19.79m) to rank fifth in NDSU history. Laufenberg now stands among the top 50 in the nation this season.
Sophomore Daejha Moss cleared 5-08.50 (1.74m) to win the high jump – a new indoor personal-best that ties her for No. 7 all-time at NDSU.
Rhaeghn Gripentrog, a freshman sprinter from Wahpeton, N.D., ran a huge personal-best of 7.71 to win the 60m dash. Just three meets into her collegiate career, she is now tied for 10th in NDSU history in the event. Gripentrog also finished second in the 200m in 25.76.
Freshman Tiana Pfaff (West Fargo, N.D.) won the long jump, leaping 17-04.00 (5.28m).
Bison redshirt freshman Brynnan Covington won the mile, trimming six seconds off her previous personal-best for a time of 5:01.69.
Unattached Bison junior Tasha Willing took first in the shot put, throwing an indoor PR of 46-10.00 (14.27m).
NDSU freshman Gracie Wright clocked a season-best 57.69 for a runner-up finish in the 400m dash. She moves up to seventh on the Summit League performance list this season.
Junior Alaysia Freetly ran a personal-best 2:17.60 in the 800m for third place.
