The North Dakota State University men's track & field team will travel to the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, in search of its fourth straight indoor team title and its eighth league indoor championship overall. South Dakota State is hosting the meet at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings.
The meet begins with multi-events action at 9:30 a.m. both days. Running events begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bison men were picked to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll, and pre-meet rankings have South Dakota State projected as the team champion by a slight margin.
As in previous years, NDSU looks to score big in the throwing events, with five of the top seven performers this season in the shot put and four of the top five in the weight throw. Senior Payton Otterdahl is the NCAA leader and conference leader in both throwing events. Bison sophomore Alex Talley ranks second in the shot put and third in the weight.
The Bison also have the potential to rack up significant points in the heptathlon and the mile. Four NDSU athletes are ranked in the top five of the heptathlon, including Summit League leader and two-time champion Ryan Enerson. In the mile, the Bison have six of the top nine fastest performers this season.
The NDSU men finished with 179.5 points in the team standings last year to win their third straight indoor crown. South Dakota State was the runner-up with 166 points, and South Dakota took third with 164.5 points.
