NDSU Baseball Falls to Oral Roberts in Series Opener

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts scored the final eight runs of the game, as the Golden Eagles defeated North Dakota State 9-3 in a Summit League baseball game at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Bison (4-13, 2-5 Summit) scored all three runs in the second inning after Oral Roberts (12-11, 5-2 Summit) scored a single run in the bottom of the first inning. The two teams will face each other again on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Trailing 1-0, the Bison took the early lead in the second inning. Hunter Koep drove a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left center to tie the game. It was the team-leading third home run of the season for Koep. With two outs, Charley Hesse doubled to left center, as Jack Simonsen scored to give the Bison the 2-1 lead. Hesse would score as Jake Malec singled for the final Bison run of the game.
Oral Roberts quickly took the lead back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Golden Eagles added single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings before adding a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Carter Thompson had his second multi hit game of the season, while five other Bison had a hit. Zach Smith suffered the loss on the mound, as he dropped to 1-2. Smith gave up six earned runs on eight hits and five walks in four innings of work. Mitch O'Connor struck out four, while walking one and allowing three hits and a run in three innings of work.
The Bison were 3-for-12 with runners on base, while Oral Roberts was 10-for-22.
