AZUSA, Calif. – North Dakota State senior Amanda Levin shattered the school record in the heptathlon to highlight Thursday's action for the Bison women's track & field team in southern California.
Levin's score of 5,695 points at the Bryan Clay Invitational surpassed the previous NDSU all-time best – held by All-American Whitney Carlson – by a staggering 139 points. Levin finished with personal-best performances in six of the seven events, and her javelin mark was the second-best of her career.
The West Fargo native essentially locked up a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June in Austin, Texas. No athlete has ever scored over 5,600 points in the heptathlon and not qualified for the national meet.
Within the heptathlon, Levin posted a long jump mark of 20-02.50 (6.16m) to move up to fourth in NDSU history.
NDSU had several other career-best performances in the Bryan Clay Invitational heptathlon on Thursday. Junior Macy Denzer is now No. 10 all-time at NDSU, scoring a personal-best 4,946 points to beat her previous best by 219 points.
Sophomore Jenna Kes (Jordan, Minn.) scored 4,800 points to rank 12th in NDSU history. She improved by 272 points over her heptathlon debut.
Senior Dakota Wood finished with a career-best heptathlon score of 4,590 points, topping her previous PR by 176 points.
At the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State, senior Hannah Frost threw 208-0 (63.40m) in the hammer – a personal-best by five and a half feet. She ranks fourth all-time at NDSU.
Junior Tasha Willing ranks ninth in NDSU history after throwing the hammer 189-7 (57.79m).
Sophomore Alyssa Lind recorded a 400m personal-best of 55.59 at Long Beach State to rank second-fastest in The Summit League this season. Lind added another PR in the 200m dash later in the day – 25.01 into a headwind.
Bison junior Paige Harris clocked a personal-best 1:03.86 in the 400m hurdles.
Freshman Jodi Lipp posted a long jump personal-best of 19-00.75 (5.81m), and junior Bailey DeMar was close behind at 19-00.50 (5.80m).
NDSU sophomore Michaela Baker went 18-11.75 (5.78m) in the long jump for the best mark of her college career. She also ran the second-fastest 100m hurdles time of her career (14.18).
