BROOKINGS, S.D. – Makenzie Hennen collected a match-high 18 kills, 15 digs and three service aces to lead South Dakota State to a 3-1 win (17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24) over North Dakota State in the Summit League opener on Friday, Sept. 27, in Frost Arena.
The Bison (5-8, 0-1 SL) are scheduled to travel to Omaha (8-7, 1-0 SL) for a 1 p.m. match Sunday, Sept. 29. Omaha defeated North Dakota 3-1 on Friday night.
Hennen received help from Ashlynn Smith, who hit .318 with 10 kills and added six blocks. SDSU outhit the Bison .174 to .128 and held 9-6 edge in team blocks. Carly Wedel had 35 assists and Crystal Burk added 16 digs and three aces.
Syra Tanchin paced NDSU with 14 kills.
Kalli Hegerle and
Kelley Johnson combined for 39 assists.
Kaylee Hanger claimed a match-high 19 digs. Hegerle and Hanger each added a pair of aces.
