NDSU Women’s Track & Field Defends Bison Team Cup Title

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team won the Bison Team Cup title for the second year in a row on Saturday, defeating Northern Iowa and Utah State inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility.
The Bison women finished with 192 points, UNI was second with 127, and Utah State took third with 83 points. NDSU won 8 of the 14 women's events.
Senior thrower Shelby Gunnells posted a career-best of 55-07.75 (16.96m) to win the shot put. She ranks second in NDSU indoor history and fifth in the NCAA this season.
The Bison women swept the top five places in the shot put with Akealy Moton, Rachel Bring, Amanda Anderson, and Maggie Schwarzkopf behind Gunnells.
NDSU senior Maddy Nilles took the weight throw title, throwing 70-05.25 (21.47m) – a mark that ranks her among the top five in the nation this season. The Bison women swept the top four places in the weight throw, with Gunnells second at a personal-best 63-03.50 (19.29m), Amy Herrington third at 61-10.50 (18.86m), and Schwarzkopf fourth with a PR of 58-09.50 (17.92m).
NDSU's Alyssa Lind (57.70), Nell Graham (58.56), Grace Zimmerman (58.80), Paige Harris, and KayDee Wescom finished 1-2-3-4-5 for the Bison women in the 400m dash. Zimmerman, Graham, Harris and Lind combined to win the 4x400m relay.
Jocelyn Dinius, Klara Lyon and Blythe Ehrmantraut finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault for the Bison. Dinius cleared 12-08.75 (3.88m) for the win, then came back later in the meet with a huge personal-best in the 200m dash, finishing second in 25.59.
Junior Kelby Anderson ran away with the mile title, finishing in 4:51.11. Sophomore Erin Valgardson ran a personal-best 5:08.45 for second place.
NDSU's Peyton Frolek took the 800m title in 2:13.32. Bison junior Katie Bye was third in 2:13.96.
NDSU sophomore Jodi Lipp won the long jump with a mark of 18-04.75 (5.61m).
Bison freshman Kendra Kelley placed second in the 60m dash in 7.86 seconds, and took third in the 200m in 25.62. Freshman Bailee Dierks was second in the 60m hurdles in 9.04 seconds. Junior Ansley Schug was third in 9.06.
Senior Kennedi Sand cleared an indoor personal-best of 5-5 (1.65m) in the high jump, taking runner-up honors.
Brynnan Covington took runner-up in the 3000m, finishing in 10:11.63.
NDSU returns to competition on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Nebraska's Mark Colligan Memorial.
