FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's soccer team fell at home to Kansas City 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Summit League play at Dacotah Field.
The Bison battled the Roos in an even match over the first 45 minutes, as both teams had five shots and two corner kicks in a 0-0 game at the break.
Olivia Lovick, Lavin Douglass and Bella Grandbois would have first half shots stopped by Mackenzie Caldwell.
The second half continued to be a back-and-forth battle early on, and Jess Hanley had the first good look of the second half from either team, but sent her shot on a free kick just wide.
About eight minute later, the visiting Roos would capitalize on a counter attack in the 60th minute to score the game's only goal.
Kassi Ginther played a long ball forward down the right flank to Emily Jensen. After a few touches toward the end line, Jensen floated a cross into the middle of the box that Emma Wilson was able to jump and reach, heading the ball just inside the back post for the lead.
The Bison would have seven shots to just five from KC in the second half, but NDSU would get just one on target, as Grandbois forced a save in the 89th minute.
NDSU would outshoot the Roos 12-10 in the game, including 4-2 in shots on goal. KC led in corner kicks 5-4, as well as fouls 11-9.
The Bison will wrap up their three-game homestand to begin Summit League play next week, as North Dakota State will welcome in-state rival University of North Dakota on Sunday to Dacotah Field. The Bison and Fighting Hawks are slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff for the 18th all-time meeting between the two sides. The game will be televised on WDAY Xtra and broadcast live on Bison 1660.
