Rodin, NDSU Men Race Into 2022 Season at Dakota Alumni Classic

FARGO, N.D. – Jacob Rodin set a meet record and facility record in the 600m to headline the performances of the North Dakota State men's track & field team at the season-opening Dakota Alumni Classic on Friday.
 
Rodin, a junior from Kenmare, N.D., won the 600m in 1:18.18 – the second-fastest time in NDSU history behind only his school record 1:18.03 from last season. Josh Knutson ran 1:19.69 for second place in the 600m – also going under the previous meet record and facility record. He now ranks third in NDSU history.
 
Olympian and former NCAA champion Payton Otterdahl made his return to Fargo and won the weight throw with a mark of 71-10 (21.89m). NDSU senior Trevor Otterdahl was the top collegian, throwing 68-07.25 (20.91m).
 
Junior Eric VanErp won the pentathlon, scoring a personal-best 3,567 points to rank 10th in NDSU history. Kristoffer Thomsen took the shot put title, winning with a throw of 63-05.00 (19.33m).
 
Bison freshman Brock Johnsen (Bismarck, N.D.) won the 60m hurdles in his collegiate debut, running 8.12 seconds to just miss a spot in the NDSU all-time Top 10.
 
Sophomore Josh Darwin cleared a career-best 6-10.25 (2.09m) in the high jump for second place. He is now tied for seventh in NDSU indoor history.
 
NDSU's Koate Deebom won the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 46-07.25 (14.20m). Jens Christensen cleared 15-07.00 (4.75m) to win the pole vault.
 
Senior Alex Brosseau clocked the fastest time in the 60m dash prelims, running a career-best 6.92. He also took second in the 200m dash in 22.09.
 
Unattached Bison Symon Keiser won the mile in 4:22.70.
 
Bison freshman Calob Larson ran 49.31 in the 400m dash for his collegiate debut, taking second place by only seven-thousandths of a second.
 
Brandon Lewis took second in the long jump, posting a mark of 23-10 (7.26m) to open the season. Dante White went 23-03.50 (7.10m) in the long jump for third place in the meet and a new indoor personal-best.
 
Freshman Robert Douglas (Casper, Wyo.) took third in the 200m (22.88) and fourth in the 60m hurdles (8.35) in his NDSU debut.
