
Moton Extends Shot Put Record, Climbs NCAA Ranks at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – North Dakota State junior thrower Akealy Moton extended her shot put school record by a foot and a half, headlining a number of impressive performances by the Bison women's track & field team on Saturday afternoon.
Moton threw 59-03.00 (18.06m) to win the event at the Iowa State Classic. She now ranks third in the nation this season, less than eight inches behind the NCAA leader.
Unattached Bison senior Shelby Gunnells also registered a career-best shot put mark on Saturday at Iowa State, throwing 57-11.25 (17.66m) to finish second behind Moton. She moved into the Top 25 in the world this year.
Senior hurdler Ansley Schug continued her string of personal-bests in the 60m hurdles, clocking 8.60 seconds to rank fourth in NDSU history.
Bison sophomore Kendra Kelley recorded a pair of personal-bests in the sprints, running 24.61 in the 200m dash for No. 8 on the NDSU all-time list. Kelley also clocked a 60m dash PR of 7.69 in the prelims, moving into a tie for ninth all-time at NDSU. She claimed runner-up honors in both events.
Peyton Frolek ran a personal-best 800m at the Iowa State Classic, finishing in 2:09.31 for the first sub-2:10 of her career.
Sophomore Nell Graham ran the second-fastest 400m of her career, finishing sixth in 56.59. Alyssa Lind was seventh in 56.91, and Grace Zimmerman took ninth in 58.17.
Freshman Salmata Korgho clocked a season-best 8.78 in the 60m hurdles for seventh place at Iowa State.
At the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, S.D., Bison jumper Jodi Lipp won the long jump and triple jump and established Summit League-leading marks in both. She took first in the long jump, leaping 19-02.50 (5.85m), and followed with a mark of 39-04.50 (12.00m) to win the triple.
Freshman Grace Emineth took runner-up honors in the long jump with a season-best mark of 18-09.25 (5.72m), and she finished third in the triple jump at 37-04.50 (11.39m).
Kaleesa Houston (10:05.57) and Alliana Houfek (10:09.33) both set new personal-bests in the 3000m, trimming 18 seconds and 12 seconds, respectively.
Sophomore Bailee Dierks clocked a season-best 60m hurdles time of 8.95 at SDSU. Michaela Hawkins threw a personal-best 47-07.00 (14.50m) for second place in the shot put.
