ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The North Dakota State baseball team earned a pair of wins over Saint Louis on Saturday, as the Bison extended their winning streak to five games with the 5-4 and 6-5 victories.
NDSU improved to 5-1 on the year with the two wins, while Saint Louis dropped to 1-6. The Bison and Billikens will close the four-game series on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Billiken Sports Center.
In the opener,
Peter Brookshaw,
Bennett Hostetler,
Calen Schwabe and
Jake Malec each had two hits, while
Charley Hesse drove in a pair of runs.
Cade Feeney earned his first win on the mound, as he struck out six and walked one, while allowing three runs on six hits in five innings.
Parker Harm earned his fourth career save, as he tossed the final two innings. Harm struck out four and walked four, while allowing one run on one hit.Â
Tucker Rohde and Hesse each had first inning singles to drive in runs for the Bison. The Billikens tied the game with a run in the first and two in the second. Schwabe scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice by Malec. Brookshaw singled in the seventh to bring in Malec for NDSU's final run.
Malec tied a career-high with three hits in the nightcap, while Brookshaw, Hostetler and Rohde each had two. Malec scored a pair of runs, while Rohde and
Hunter Koep each drove in two runs.
Ben Smith earned his fifth career win in 4.1 innings, striking out two, while walking four and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits.
Jake Drew struck out two of the three batters he faced, while
Skyler Riedinger earned his first career save in the final two innings. Riedinger struck out four and walked two, while allowing a run on two hits.Â
The first runs of the nightcap came in the third, as Brookshaw singled to bring in Malec. The Billikens tied it in the bottom half, but Koep launched a two-run home run in the fourth to give NDSU the lead. In the fifth, Rohde singled to bring in Malec before Hostetler scored on a sacrifice bunt by Hesse. The Bison added an insurance run as Rohde singled in the seventh to bring in Brookshaw.
