NDSU Baseball Beats Dayton 4-3

DAYTON, Ohio - The North Dakota State baseball team took the lead in the third inning and held on for a 4-3 win over Dayton on Sunday afternoon at Woerner Field.
The Bison improved to 10-3 on the year, while the Flyers dropped to 3-10. The victory was the fourth-straight for the Bison, who will close the four-game series against the Flyers on Tuesday, March 16. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. (Central) at Woerner Field.
Bennett Hostetler had two hits for the Bison, while Peter Brookshaw had the only other NDSU hit. Hostetler drove in a pair of runs, while Jake Malec scored two runs. Ben Smith improved to 2-0 on the mound, as he allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking one in six innings. Tristen Roehrich earned his first save, as he tossed the final three innings. Roehrich allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk, while striking out four.
In the top of the first, Hostetler scored as Tucker Rohde reached on an error. The Flyers tied the game in the second on a solo home run, but NDSU answered in the third on an RBI single by Brookshaw that brought in Malec. In the fifth inning, Hostetler singled through the right side, as Malec and Calen Schwabe scored. Dayton scored on a solo home run in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh.
