The North Dakota State University track & field teams will host the NDSU Spring Classic this Friday, Apr. 2, at the Schlanser Track and Ellig Sports Complex on campus.
The Bison were originally scheduled to compete in Vermillion, S.D., on Saturday, but added the home meet to take advantage of the favorable Fargo weather. North Dakota, MSU Moorhead, and Concordia-Moorhead are expected to compete with NDSU on Friday.
Field events begin with the women's hammer throw at noon and the men's javelin and women's pole vault at 1 p.m. Track events start at 3 p.m. with the 3,000m steeplechase and are expected to conclude by 6:30 p.m.
Admission is free, and attendance is not limited or restricted, due to the ample spacing of the track & field complex.
In the outdoor season opener last weekend in Wichita, Kan., the Bison established six marks that currently rank among the top 10 in the NCAA this season. Maddy Nilles (hammer throw) and Akealy Moton (shot put) both stand at No. 2 on the national performance list.
Shelby Gunnells is No. 8 nationally in the shot put, and Maxwell Otterdahl (shot put), Kari Wolfe (javelin), and Benji Phillips (javelin) all rank 10th in the NCAA this year for their respective events.
Both the Bison men and women were voted the favorites to win the Summit League outdoor team championships in 2021.
