NDSU Men's Golf Prepares for Summit League Championships

NEWTON, Kan. - The North Dakota State University men's golf team opens play in The Summit League Men's Golf Championships Saturday, May 1, at Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
North Dakota State tees off in the first of three rounds at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for May 1-3, with the course being played at 7,086 yards and scoring set at a par-72.

Bison Notes
- The Bison (294.5) will be the number three seed based on the final Golfstat rankings, while Denver (291.4) and Kansas City (291.9) are the top two seeds. Oral Roberts is seeded fourth with a 294 scoring average.
- North Dakota State will play in the final group with Denver and Kansas City after winning their final two tournaments of the regular season.
- Led by two underclassmen, the Bison turned in two of the top three scoring rounds of the season en route to winning the Golfweek Spring Invitational in early April. The Bison fired a 277 (-11) in the second round after opening the event with a 279 (-9).
- Sophomore Nate Deziel and freshman Jack Johnson posted identical stroke averages of 73.53 through five events, logging 1,103 strokes in 15 rounds of play. Deziel tied for the fifth at the Golfweek event, while Johnson tied for 10th.
- The Bison then won the Stampede at the Creek, which was an event that featured four other Summit League foes. NDSU won by six strokes as Deziel posted his third top-10 finish of the season.
- Deziel and Johnson both earned All-Summit League honors, with Deziel being named to the first team and Johnson on the second team. It is the fourth-straight year NDSU has had multiple selections to the teams.
- Lucas Johnson returns to the Summit League Championship for the third time in his career, boasting a pair of top 20 finishes each time. In 2018, Johnson finished in a tie for 10th with a 227, while he tied for 18th in 2019 with a 225. Deziel will be making his second appearance at the championships, as he tied for sixth in 2019 with a 221.
- Brock Winter and Nate Adams each shot a 66 at the Golfweek Spring Invitational, with Winter doing so in the first round and Adams in the second. The six under par is tied for the third best round in the Summit League this season.
- Deziel and L. Johnson enter the championship with two of the five lowest career scoring averages in school history. Deziel ranks fourth in school history at 74.37, while Johnson is fifth at 74.61.
