Hostetler Records 200th Career Hit in Win Over Mayville State

FARGO, N.D. - Senior Bennett Hostetler became the sixth player in school history to reach 200 career hits Tuesday night, as the North Dakota State baseball team beat Mayville State 6-2 at Newman Outdoor Field.
NDSU improved to 29-13 overall, while the Comets dropped to 31-15. The Bison return to action on Friday, as they host Omaha in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. The Mavericks are currently in second in the Summit League standings at 10-5 (.667), while NDSU is third at 14-9 (.609).
Hostetler, Jack Simonsen and Calen Schwabe each had two hits to lead the Bison. Simonsen drove in three runs. NDSU had a balanced approach on the mound, using three pitchers for three innings each. Zach Smith had a no-decision in the start, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks, while striking out three. Hunter Koep picked up his first win of the year, as he struck out one and allowed two hits. Gabe Pilla earned his first save of the year, allowing a walk and three hits, while striking out five.
Mayville State scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to take the early lead. NDSU responded in the fourth, as Simonsen singled to center field to bring in Cade Feeney and Charley Hesse to tie the game. In the fifth, Hostetler scored the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Hesse. Simonsen brought in Will Busch on a single through the right side in the sixth inning. The final Bison runs came in the eighth, as Schwabe doubled down the left field line to bring in Simonsen before a Noah Dehne sacrifice fly plated Schwabe.
