Gunnells Earns 3rd Consecutive Academic All-District Honor

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University track & field athlete Shelby Gunnells was named to the Academic All-District 6 team for Division I women's track & field and cross country, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
This is the third consecutive Academic All-District selection for Gunnells, who was named a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2020 after earning second-team recognition in 2019. As an All-District honoree, Gunnells will once again advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors, to be announced in mid-August.
Gunnells earned her Bachelor of Science degree from NDSU in geology with a 4.0 GPA. She won the NCAA Elite 90 Award for outdoor track & field in 2021, ranking eighth on the NCAA performance list for the outdoor shot put this season and earning second-team All-America honors in the event.
In all, Gunnells was a three-time All-American in the shot put and an 18-time Summit League placewinner in the throwing events during her Bison career.
District 6 is comprised of student-athletes from Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
