NDSU Splits Doubleheader at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The North Dakota State baseball team split its doubleheader against Dixie State on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field. The Trailblazers won the early game, 6-2, before the Bison bounced back to steal a 6-2 win in game two.

In game one, Dixie State plated two runs in the opening frame and one run in the second and third innings to open up a 4-0 advantage after three. Following a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Druw Sackett put the Bison on the scoreboard, 4-1, after he stole home in the sixth. Peter Brookshaw followed it up connecting on a single into right to score Calen Schwabe and make the score 4-2. However, Dixie State added on two insurance runs in the bottom half of the stanza to put the game out of reach and secure the 6-2 win.

Schwabe paced the Bison going 1-of-2 at the plate with one run and one stolen base. Cade Feeney (1-1) picked up the loss on the mound firing two strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

In game two, NDSU started fast sending three runs across in the opening inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Brookshaw got the scoring started connecting on an RBI single to make the score 1-0. Charley Hesse added on another RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0. Carson Hake capped the big inning with a sacrifice fly into left field to score Brookshaw and stretch the edge to 3-0.

The game then went scoreless for three innings until Brookshaw connected on his first home run of the season to make the score 4-0. Logan Williams added NDSU's second home run of the contest in the sixth and his first of the season into right field to expand the lead to 5-0. Cadyn Schwabe then closed out frame with a sacrifice fly to send Terrell Huggins across and increase the edge to 6-0. NDSU went on to take the win, 6-2.

The Bison totaled nine hits as a team with six different players contributing at least one. Brookshaw led the way going 2-of-4 at the plate with two runs, two RBI and one home run.

Evan Sankey (2-0) made his second start of the season going 6.0 innings with four strikeouts. Tristen Roehrich earned his second career save and tossed three strikeouts over the final 3.0 innings.
