ST. GEORGE, Utah – The North Dakota State baseball team fell short against Dixie State, 6-4, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Logan Williams put the Bison (4-4) on the scoreboard in the opening frame with his second home run of the season into left center to make the score 1-0. Dixie State (4-3) then erupted with a three-run second inning and two-run third inning to steal a 5-2 advantage after three.
Peter Brookshaw answered for NDSU in the fourth inning delivering an RBI double down the right field line to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. After a scoreless fifth inning, Brookshaw continued to provide a spark sending an RBI single into center field to score Williams and pull the Bison within one, 5-4. Dixie State then responded in the seventh adding on an insurance run to put the contest out of reach, 6-4.
The Bison tied a season-high 13 hits with
Jack Simonsen leading the way going 4-of-5 at the plate. Brookshaw also notched three hits with a team-high two RBI. Williams added on a team-best two runs with two hits and one RBI.
Ben Smith (0-1) made his second start of the season with one strikeout over 3.0 innings.
Wyatt Nelson also made an appearance and tossed a team-high three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
NDSU will be back in action at Long Beach State (2-3) on Friday. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. CT
