EUGENE, Ore. – The North Dakota State softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 11/14 Oregon on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium, falling 14-1 and 10-2.
The Bison (12-11) fell in five innings to open up the day, the first time NDSU was run ruled on the season. Oregon (19-3) took a 1-0 lead in the second and added four more runs in the third after the Bison had two errors.
NDSU scored in the fourth with Dez Cardenas singling to lead off the inning, followed up immediately with a double off the fence in right center by Cameryn Maykut that brought around Cardenas from first.
Maykut would advance to third later in the inning, but was caught out at home on an infield ground ball. The Bison would get runners on first and second later in the inning, but were unable to produce any more runs.
Oregon would then respond with nine runs in the fourth inning that triggered the run-rule victory.
In game two, the Ducks would start the scoring in the second with a solo home run to lead off the inning, followed by two more runs. Skylar Padgett would respond in the top of the third with a solo home run of her own to make it 3-1. It was the third homer of her career.
The Ducks would add a run in the third and three runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-1 before the Bison added another run in the top of the sixth. Nicole Licea had a one out single and then scored on a two-out double to left by Cardenas.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, the Ducks would load the bases and then trigger a run-rule victory with a bases clearing hit to right field.
The loss sees the Bison losing skid extend to seven games, as NDSU falls to 3-6 on the season in true road games.
North Dakota State will look to rebound and avenge losses to Portland State and Oregon State from Friday, as the Bison take on the two programs Sunday in Corvallis to wrap up the trip to Oregon. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. CT against Portland State, with the game against the No. 24 Beavers set for a 3:30 p.m. CT first pitch.
