Bison Prepared to Open Summit League Play at Northern Colorado

THIS WEEK
The North Dakota State baseball team has won its last three games and is prepared to open Summit League play at Northern Colorado this week. The Bison will begin the three-game series against the Bears on Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT

LAST TIME OUT
NDSU wrapped up its Florida road swing with a 5-1 win over Fairfield to complete the series sweep. Cade Feeney nearly went a complete game in the win tossing two strikeouts over 6.0 innings with no walks. Wyatt Nelson finished the final inning for the Bison registering one strikeout. Terrell Huggins also notched his first career home run and tallied a season-high four RBI.
ROEHRICH TABBED PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Tristen Roehrich was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week earlier this week for the first time in his career. He helped guide NDSU to a 4-1 record last week in two appearances on the mound with a 1.50 ERA. Roehrich fired a team-high six total strikeouts and limited opponents to a .105 batting average.
He tossed three strikeouts over 3.0 innings with only one walk and picked up his second win of the season on the hill in the 12-3 victory at Florida Atlantic. The West Fargo, N.D., native also contributed three strikeouts over 3.0 innings to earn his third save of the season in the 8-2 win over Fairfield.
IN SUMMIT LEAGUE OPENERS
After 20 games of non-conference action, NDSU is set to open conference play at Northern Colorado. Last season, the Bison rolled past Western Illinois on the road to open Summit League play, 11-2. Calen Schwabe connected on four hits, while Cade Feeney tossed seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
FLORIDA IS A BISON STATE
NDSU played eight games in nine days in the state of Florida from March 11-19. Over that span, the Bison posted a 6-2 overall record and closed the trip with a series sweep of Fairfield. Calen Schwabe paced NDSU playing in all eight games with a .529 batting average. He also contributed nine hits, six runs, and five RBI.
LOVEN CLIMBS THE RANKS
Max Loven has made five appearances on the bump this season and boasts a 2-1 overall record. He has fired 19 total strikeouts to increase his career total to 163, which positions him tied for eighth place on the all-time NDSU strikeout list. Loven has also totaled 200.1 innings pitched and is slotted in ninth place on the NDSU all-time innings pitched list. He's one of only nine players in program history to pitch in 200 innings or more.
DREW CLOSES THINGS OUT
Jake Drew finished up the final 2.2 innings against Fairfield with two strikeouts to earn his team-high fourth save of the season. The Alexandria, Minn., native has contributed eight saves over five seasons and is tied for eighth place on the NDSU all-time saves list.
SWINGING FOR THE FENCES
The Bison have connected on 19 total home runs so far this season with eight different players registering at least one.
Logan Williams has made an immediate impact in his first season at NDSU launching a team-high six home runs over 14 games. He's connected on one home run in each of his last four appearances, including an in the park home run in the 12-9 win over Fairfield.
LOOKING FOR MORE
NDSU has totaled 45 stolen bases this season, which leads the Summit League and ranks 13th in the nation. Cadyn Schwabe has stolen a team-high nine bases on 11 attempts.
NCAA RANKINGS AT A GLANCE
NDSU ranks inside the top 30 nationally in three categories: sacrifice bunts (6th, 17), stolen bases (13th, 45) and stolen bases per game (15th, 2.25).
SCOUTING NORTHERN COLORADO
Northern Colorado enters the week with 6-16 (3-0 Summit) overall record and are 5-5 over their last 10 games. The Bears played a two-game midweek series at Utah earlier this week and fell short on Wednesday night against the Utes, 8-7, on a walk-off wild pitch. Jake King went 3-of-5 at the plate for the Bears with one run and one RBI.
THE SERIES VS. NORTHERN COLORADO
These two teams met last season in non-conference action with NDSU winning the series finale, 11-1, in seven innings in Greeley, Colo. Jack Simonsen paced the Bison with three hits, while Ben Smith allowed only one run through 6.1 innings on the mound. The Bears hold the slight edge in the series, 22-21, that dates back to 1962.

The Bison will continue Summit League play at Western Illinois on Friday, April 1. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
