NDSU Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team split a doubleheader at Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field. The Mavericks took game one, 10-2, before the Bison bounced back with a 2-0 shutout victory in game two to take the series.
The Bison (21-11, 9-3 Summit) struck first in game one after Logan Williams used a sacrifice fly to score Brock Anderson and steal the 1-0 lead in the first inning. The contest then went scoreless for three innings until Omaha (16-17, 7-5 Summit) erupted with four runs in the fifth to grab a 4-1 advantage following a sacrifice fly off the bat of Eddie Satisky. The Mavericks continued to surge adding on five more runs over the sixth and seventh innings to stretch their edge to 9-1 after Harrison Denk connected on a single to left center. Omaha went on to hold off NDSU the rest of the way and pick up the 10-2 win.
The Bison totaled eight hits as team with Cadyn Schwabe leading the way going 3-of-4 at the plate with one run.
Cade Feeney (4-2) tossed a game-high five strikeouts with one walk over 5.0 innings. Wyatt Nelson also contributed three strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
In game two, both teams battled through six scoreless innings until Will Busch was able to connect on a single into right field scoring Cadyn Schwabe to grab the 1-0 lead in the seventh. One inning later, Anderson added some insurance launching his fourth home run of the season into right field to extend the edge to 2-0 in the eighth. Jake Drew then closed out the final frame for the Bison firing back-to-back strikeouts to secure the 2-0 win.
Anderson paced the Bison going 2-of-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI, while Cadyn Schwabe also went 2-of-3 with one run.
Evan Sankey made his ninth start of the season tossing four strikeouts with no walks over 6.2 innings. Drew (2-0) earned the win finishing the final 2.1 innings and tied a career-high four strikeouts with no walks.
NDSU will be back in action at Nebraska on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
