LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska scored three runs in the third inning to sneak past the North Dakota State baseball team, 4-3, on Wednesday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.
Following a scoreless first inning,
Cadyn Schwabe sparked the Bison (21-12, 9-3 Summit) in the second with an RBI single up the middle to steal the early lead, 1-0. The Huskers (14-21, 4-5 Big Ten) quickly locked the frame, 1-1, in the bottom half after Griffin Everitt connected on a home run to right field.
Druw Sackett responded for NDSU in the third with a two RBI home run into left field to regain the edge, 3-1. Nebraska once again answered in the bottom half pushing across three runs on four hits to open up a 4-3 edge. The Bison made one final surge in seventh getting two runners on after Sackett singled into right and
Peter Brookshaw was walked, but both were left stranded. Nebraska held off NDSU the rest of the way to earn the 4-3 win.
Sackett registered his sixth multiple hit game of the season going 3-of-4 at the plate, including a double and a home run. He also added two RBI and one run to his stat line.
Cadyn Schwabe contributed two hits and one RBI.
Ben Smith (0-2) made his fifth start of the season and tossed two strikeouts with no walks over 3.0 innings.
Shea Zetterman also fired two strikeouts over one inning.
NDSU will continue its road swing at Oral Roberts on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
