NDSU Set for Series at South Dakota State

THIS WEEK
The North Dakota State (23-11, 11-4 Summit) baseball team is prepared for a three-game series at South Dakota State (16-17, 7-5 Summit) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Erv Huether Field.

LAST TIME OUT
NDSU rolled past Oral Roberts, 10-2, last Saturday to win the weekend series. The Bison totaled 15 hits as a team with six different players contributing at least two. Druw Sackett went 3-of-5 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Evan Sankey picked up the win tossing three strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Tristen Roehrich earned his fifth save of the season with three strikeouts over the final 3.0 innings.
NCBWA STOPPER OF THE YEAR MIDSEASON WATCH LIST
Senior right-handed pitcher Jake Drew and junior right-handed pitcher Tristen Roehrich have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. NDSU is one of only four schools in the nation with multiple players selected joining Michigan, Arizona and UCLA.
Drew has made 13 appearances on the mound this season with a 2-0 overall record. He boasts a 0.00 ERA over 14.2 innings pitched. The Alexandria, Minn., native has notched a career-high six saves this season, which is tied for ninth on the NDSU all-time single-season list. Drew also hasn't allowed a hit in his last five appearances on the mound.
Roehrich has made 11 appearances this season with a 4-1 overall record. He has registered a 2.19 ERA over 37.0 innings. The West Fargo, N.D., native has fired 41 total strikeouts and has limited opponents to .207 batting average. Roehrich, who was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week on March 21, has also contributed a career-high five saves this season.
KINGS OF THE ROAD
The Bison were originally scheduled to play their first 27 games of the season on the road, but weather has forced schedule changes and NDSU has started the season playing each of its first 36 games away from home. The Bison have now registered at least one win in nine different states this season.
BY THE NUMBERS
NDSU leads the Summit League in five major statistical categories: ERA (1st, 4.01), home runs (T-1st, 39), on-base percentage (1st, .381), sacrifice bunts (1st, 26) and slugging percentage (1st, .428).
The Bison pitching staff boasts a 4.01 ERA this season, which ranks 26th in the nation. NDSU is also slotted second in the Summit League and 32nd in the nation in shutouts with three.
Individually, Cade Feeney, Max Loven and Evan Sankey all lead the Summit League in games started with 10. Logan Williams also leads the conference in home runs (1st, 10), home runs per game (1st, 0.34) and runs batted in per game (1st, 1.07). Calen Schwabe paces the Summit League and ranks seventh in the nation in sacrifice bunts (10). He is also leading the conference and ranks sixth in the country in sacrifice bunts per game (.29)
HITTING THE LONG BALL
The Bison have connected on 39 home runs, which leads the Summit League and ranks tied for ninth on the NDSU single-season list. Logan Williams paces the conference with 10 home runs, while Peter Brookshaw ranks tied for 10th and has launched a career-high six this season.
LIGHTS OUT
The Bison pitching staff has earned 14 saves this season, which ranks third on the NDSU all-time single-season list. Four different pitchers have contributed at least one save this season. Last season, NDSU set a program record with 27 total saves.
ON HISTORIC PACE
Logan Williams has connected on a team-high 10 home runs this season, which leads the Summit League. His 10 home runs are also the most in the NDSU Division I era in a single-season and tied for 11th overall on the NDSU all-time single season list.
Williams assembled a streak of seven games with a home run from March 15-March 27. The NCAA record for consecutive games with a with a home run is nine, which was set by Nevada's Tyler Bosetti in 2021 from April 24-May 9.
Williams had a performance to remember at Northern Colorado with two grand slams and a career-high eight RBI to help the Bison to a 15-1 win. His eight RBI were the most in the NDSU Division I era and one shy of the program record of nine.
LOVEN CLIMBS THE RANKS
Max Loven has made 10 appearances on the bump this season and boasts a 5-3 overall record. He has fired 41 total strikeouts to increase his career total to 185, which positions him in seventh place on the all-time NDSU strikeout list. Loven has also totaled 228 innings pitched and is slotted in fifth place on the NDSU all-time innings pitched list. He's one of only nine players in program history to pitch in 200 innings or more.
DREW CLOSES THINGS OUT
Jake Drew is 2-0 on the mound this season and has totaled a career-high six saves this season. He has contributed 10 saves over five seasons, which ranks seventh on the NDSU all-time saves list.
Additionally, Drew hasn't allowed a hit in each of his last five appearances (5.2 innings) dating back to April 2 at Western Illinois.
SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
South Dakota State has won its last three games and most recently rolled past Minnesota on Wednesday, 12-6. The Jackrabbits totaled 13 hits with Henry George going 4-of-4 with three runs and one RBI. SDSU leads the Summit League in home runs (T-1st, 39) and doubles per game (1st, 1.88).
THE SERIES VS. SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
NDSU has won each of the last two meetings against SDSU and most recently cruised past the Jackrabbits last season, 10-4, at Newman Outdoor Field. Jack Simonsen paced the Bison with two hits and a run, while Cade Feeney picked up the win tossing two strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
