NDSU Splits Saturday Doubleheader at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The North Dakota State baseball team split a doubleheader against St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon. The Tommies stole game one, 6-0, before the Bison bounced back to take the win in game two, 4-1, at Koch Diamond.
In game one, St. Thomas (5-18, 2-6 Summit) began the scoring with a two-run home run off the bat of Kyle Halverson to make the score 2-0. The contest then went scoreless for four innings until the Tommies added on one more run in the sixth following a sacrifice fly from Avery Lehman to extend the edge to 3-0. Calen Schwabe attempted to spark the Bison (18-10, 6-2 Summit) in the bottom half breaking up the perfect game with a single into right field, but was later left stranded. St. Thomas went on to add three insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the 6-0 win.
Max Loven (4-2) picked up the loss with three strikeouts over 7.0 innings. Joey Danielson made his sixth appearance of the season and finished the final two innings with two strikeouts. Graham Laubscher (1-5) led the way for St. Thomas with a career-high 15 strikeouts over 8.1 innings.
In game two, Brock Anderson got the scoring started in the third sending an RBI single into center field to score Carson Hake to make the score 1-0. Following a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, St. Thomas locked the contest in the sixth, 1-1, after Brigs Richartz connected on an RBI double into right field. Logan Williams responded for NDSU in the bottom half with an RBI single to score Cadyn Schwabe and regain the lead, 2-1. Jack Simonsen followed it up with another RBI single to score Peter Brookshaw to extend the edge to 3-1. Druw Sackett then added on insurance for the Bison after he reached on a fielder's choice to score Williams and put the contest out of reach, 4-1.
Simonsen paced the Bison going 2-of-3 at the plate with one RBI. Cade Feeney (4-1) earned his fourth win of the season with five strikeouts and one walk over 8.0 innings. Jake Drew tallied his team-high fifth save of the season finishing the final frame with one strikeout.
