NDSU Falls in Series Finale Against Western Illinois, 6-3

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision against Western Illinois on Senior Day at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday afternoon.
Logan Williams began the scoring launching his 11th home run of the season into right field to make the score 1-0 in the first inning. The Bison (30-17, 17-5 Summit) then stretched their lead up to 3-0 in the second frame after Terrell Huggins connected on an RBI double to left field and Zach Kluvers delivered an RBI single into right field.
The Leathernecks (8-44, 5-19 Summit) then erupted for a three-run fourth inning to lock the contest, 3-3, after Matt Santarelli connected on a sacrifice fly to score Derek Botaletto. Following two scoreless innings, Western Illinois grabbed its first lead of the game, 4-3, after Kory Olsen reached on a fielder's choice to score Santarelli. NDSU wasn't able to get anything going the rest of way and dropped the series finale, 6-3.
NDSU notched seven hits as a team with Cadyn Schwabe setting the pace going 2-of-4 at the plate.
Evan Sankey made the start on the mound and fired two strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Riley Johnson also made an appearance and contributed a team-best three strikeouts over 1.1 innings.
NDSU will be back in action at the Summit League Championship on May 25-28 in Tulsa, Okla.
