THIBODAUX, La. – North Dakota State soccer wrapped up it's opening weekend with a 0-0 tie against Southern University at the Lester Bimah Battle on the Bayou Sunday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Soccer Complex.
NDSU would carry 61 percent of the possession in Sunday's game against the Lady Jaguars, while also outshooting Southern 18-6. However, the Bison could not find a breakthrough despite controlling a majority of the game.
In the opening half, the Bison fired eight shots toward the Southern goal while allowing just one shot against. However, NDSU was unable to find an early breakthrough as
Jess Hanley's shot in the 27
th minute was the only one on target in the opening half.
Early in the second half, Southern would get a shot on target toward the Bison goal, forcing
Sofia Howe into her first save of the afternoon. She would finish with two saves overall in the contest, recording her first shutout as a Bison.
In the 53
rd minute, shortly after Southern's first shot on target, they were reduced to 10 as Deja Griffin was shown a red card for violent conduct.
Loretta Wacek would force a save in the 58
th minute, but the Bison struggled to get shots on target with the Lady Jaguars packing in defensively after the red card.
Paige Goaley had the final shot on target in the 82
nd minute with Southern clearing it off the line to keep the game scoreless.
The Bison will head to another neutral-site setting for two more non-conference matches next weekend, taking on Utah Tech and Chicago State in St. Paul, Minnesota in games hosted at St. Thomas. NDSU will open the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, August 27 against Utah Tech.
