AUSTIN, Texas -- The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision at Texas in front of 6,457 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday night.
Druw Sackett got the Bison (1-15) off to a fast start with an RBI double into left field to make the score 1-0 in the opening frame.
Cadyn Schwabe then doubled up the Longhorns (10-7) in the second with an RBI single up the middle to stretch the lead to 2-0. Â Texas answered in the bottom half loading up the bases and walking a run across to cut into the edge, 2-1.
Following a scoreless third frame, Texas stole the lead, 3-2, following a two-run double off the bat of Eric Kennedy. The Longhorns then kept momentum going pushing across three runs on three hits in the fifth inning after Jayden Duplantier sent an RBI single to right field. The Bison made one final surge loading up the bases in the eighth, but couldn't push any across after a strikeout and ground out. NDSU went on to drop the contest, 7-2.
The Bison totaled seven hits as team. Sackett went 2-of-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Max Loven made the start on the mound allowing one run over 1.2 innings.
Carson Jacobs (0-3) totaled two strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
Hunter Rosenbaum also appeared on the hill for 1.1 innings and
Wyatt Nelson finished the final 3.0 innings.
NDSU will finish its two-game series against Texas tomorrow. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
