OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored six runs in the eighth inning to help seal a 10-2 win over Omaha to begin Summit League play on Friday night at Tal Anderson Field.
The two teams will now play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 2:00 p.m. due to expected inclement weather on Sunday. Both games will be nine innings.
After Omaha (6-9, 0-1 Summit) started the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, NDSU (4-17, 1-0 Summit) stole the lead in the second sending three runs across on four hits to make the score 3-1 following a two-run single off the bat of
Cadyn Schwabe.
The contest then went scoreless for five innings until the Bison erupted with six runs on four hits in the eighth inning to increase their lead to 9-1.
Davis Hamilton sparked NDSU with a two RBI double into right field.
Kyle Law followed it up with an RBI single before
Will Busch and Law each scored unearned runs after a throwing error.
Schwabe capped the eighth inning notching an unearned run after
Peter Brookshaw grounded out to the pitcher.
Jack Steil helped put the game out of reach scoring a run on a wild pitch in the ninth to make the score 10-1. NDSU went on close out the final frame to pick up the 10-2 win.
The Bison connected on 13 hits a team with four different players contributing at least two. It marked the fourth straight game NDSU has totaled at least 10 or more hits. Hamilton paced Bison going 3-of-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs.
Cade Feeney (1-3) earned the win on the mound going a season-high 7.0 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Joey Danielson finished out the final 2.0 innings with four strikeouts.
