FARGO, N.D. – Stephen Lund used a clutch RBI sacrifice fly in the 12th inning to help lift the North Dakota State baseball team past Omaha, 7-6, on Thursday afternoon in the second round of the Summit League Championship at Newman Outdoor Field.

With the win, the Bison move to 23-29 overall and will face the loser of third-seeded South Dakota State and top-seeded Oral Roberts tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.

Peter Brookshaw provided the energy in the opening frame launching a two-run home run to make the score 2-0 before Jack Steil capped the frame with an RBI ground out to increase the edge to 3-0. Brookshaw followed it up in the second frame grounding into a double play to allow Davis Hamilton to score and stretch the lead to 4-0.

Following scoreless third and fourth innings, Brookshaw stole third base and then advanced home on a throwing error to increase the lead to 5-0. Omaha (21-28) got the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zach Lechnir to make the score 5-1. Brookshaw once again responded for the Bison with an RBI sacrifice fly to grow the advantage to 6-1 in the sixth inning.

The Mavericks then began to rally plating five runs over the next three frames to lock the contest, 6-6, after Cam Frederick delivered an RBI single to right center in the ninth. Both teams then battled through two scoreless frames until Lund sent a sacrifice fly to deep left center to help secure the 7-6 win.

Tristen Roehrich made the start on the mound going 6.0 innings with a game-best five strikeouts. Joey Danielson logged one frame with one strikeout, while Skyler Riedinger also provided 2.0 innings of relief with three strikeouts. Parker Puetz (3-0) earned the win finishing out the final 3.0 frames with one strikeout.

The Bison totaled 10 hits as a team with James Dunlap and Cadyn Schwabe each contributing a game-high three hits. Brookshaw also filled his stat line with three RBI, two hits, two runs and one stolen base.
