NDSU Men Win Two Titles, Break Two School Records on Day 1 of Summit League Meet

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team got off to a strong start on the opening day of the Summit League Indoor Championships Friday, winning a pair of event titles and setting two school records to highlight the day's performances.
 
Quinn Roehl, Isaac Huntington, Ethan Moe and Hunter Klimek defended NDSU's Summit League title in the distance medley relay, winning with a thrilling kick by Klimek in 9:54.51 – the second-fastest time in school history.
 
NDSU's Kaden Pastian won the Summit League title in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 64-08.75 (19.73m).
 
Bison sophomore Jarod White took down Ryan McGlynn's NDSU pole vault record from 1996, clearing 17-07.25 (5.37m) for third place in the meet. The mark ranks him top-30 in the nation this season.
 
The Bison men racked up an impressive 22 team points in the long jump with a series of breakthrough performances. Zach McGlynn was the league runner-up with a personal-best 24-02.50 (7.38m) to rank seventh in NDSU indoor history. Freshman Michael Haugo jumped a personal-best 23-10.75 (7.28m) to take third in the meet and tie for 11th all-time at NDSU. Hunter Merkley placed fourth, Koate Deebom was seventh, and Jayden Williams finished eighth as they each recorded season-best marks.
 
McGlynn also cleared a personal-best 16-07.50 (5.07m) to place sixth in the pole vault, standing eighth in NDSU indoor history.
 
Symon Keiser finished fourth in the 3,000m, running 8:20.97. Freshman Jack Packer took eighth in the weight throw at his first Summit League meet.
 
The Bison men also positioned themselves to score points in the running event finals on Saturday with a number of qualifiers.
 
Sophomore Blake Nyenati ran 7.79 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles to improve his own school record, leading five Bison qualifiers into the eight-man final. Brock Johnsen clocked a personal-best 7.98 to tie for fourth in school history. Logan Mathieu (8.04), freshman Trey Heinrich (8.11), and Bryce Enerson (personal-best 8.23) all advanced to the final for NDSU.
 
Carter Elde (49.22), Cullen Curl (49.29), and Khamarly Holmes (49.53) all advanced to the 400m dash final.
 
Freshman Jayden Williams ran 6.80 in the 60m dash prelims to qualify third-fastest to the final.
 
Enerson stands in fourth place in the heptathlon after Day 1 with 2,754 points. He clocked a big personal-best of 7.17 in the 60m dash and followed up with a PR of 21-00.50 (6.41m) in the long jump.
