COLLEGE STATION, Texas – North Dakota State softball closed out the Texas A&M Invitational, falling to Kansas 15-6 at the Davis Diamond on Sunday morning.
The Bison jumped out to a quick start, scoring five in the first inning and taking a 6-1 lead in the second, but Kansas would score 14 unanswered runs to come from behind and defeat NDSU.
With the bases loaded, Jasmyn Yessian gave the Bison the lead with an RBI single in the top of the first that also brought in two more runs on a Jayhawks error. The Bison would continue scoring in the inning, as Ava Chavarria doubled in Yessian and later scored on a fielder's choice from Rylee Henderson.
After Kansas added one run in the bottom of the first, Reanna Rudd would single in the second to bring in another run for the Bison on another Kansas error to give NDSU a 6-1 lead.
However, after a scoreless second for Kansas, the Jayhawks started their comeback in the third with a two-RBI single. Kansas then added three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 6-6.
Kansas would take the lead with a five-run inning in the fifth, capitalizing on errors from the Bison. In the sixth, Kansas would score four more runs to trigger a run-rule victory.
Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage had two of NDSU's seven hits in the game. She also had a walk. Rudd, Yessian and Chavarria all had a hit and a walk with a run scored. Savy Williams picked up the loss in relief, giving up three runs, one earned, in 1.1 innings of work.
NDSU will return to action next week in Nashville, Tenn. at the Purple/Gold Challenge hosted by Lipscomb. The Bison will open the event against Georgetown and Lipscomb on March 1 with games at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
