No. 6 Oregon State Sneaks Past NDSU Baseball, 6-5

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 6-5 decision at No. 6 Oregon State on Friday night at Goss Stadium.
For the second straight night, the Bison (2-7) got off to a quick start after Sam Canton delivered a two-run double in the opening frame to make the score 2-0. The contest then went scoreless for three innings until James Dunlap hammered a two RBI home run down the left field line to stretch the lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Jack Steil finished out the big frame with an RBI single of his own to increase the advantage to 5-0 in the fifth frame.
Oregon State (9-1) added its first run in the fifth on a walk before erupting for five runs in seventh, including a three-run home run off the bat of Travis Bazzana to steal the lead, 6-5. Joey Danielson kept it a one-run game with three strikeouts to end the eighth, but the Bison couldn't get anything going in the ninth and dropped the contest, 6-5.
The Bison totaled 10 hits as a team with Cadyn Schwabe, Jake Schaffner and Canton each contributing two. It marked the fifth time this season NDSU has totaled at least 10 hits.
Nolan Johnson made the start on the mound tossing five strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Danielson (0-2) finished the final 1.2 innings with a season-high five strikeouts.
NDSU will continue its series at Oregon State tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
