FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State assistant coach Chris Higgins has been elevated to associate head coach, announced head coach Mike Regan on Wednesday.
Higgins has spent the last two seasons with the Bison as an assistant coach, working heavily with the goalkeepers.
"Coach Higgins has been a great asset to our program for the last two years," said Regan. "He has played a critical role in all facets of our program and has been instrumental in helping to put our roster together, develop players and mentor our team. He is very deserving and I'm excited for the opportunity to continue working with him."
During his time with the Bison, Higgins has helped develop five all-league selections, including goalkeeper Abby Wilkinson into the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year this past season, before she became the first Bison soccer player to sign a professional contract.
"I'm thankful for my time in Fargo and working under coach Regan and with our Bison student-athletes," said Higgins. "It's a privilege to be able to continue my coaching career here at NDSU and take the next step in that journey. I look forward to the continued guidance of coach Regan and the ability to continue to grow our program and develop our young women to be better student-athletes and pursue championships."
Higgins joined the Bison from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he helped guide the women's program to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2021. For two seasons in Dubuque, Higgins served as an assistant and recruiting coordinator for the men's and women's programs. Higgins helped guide the men's and women's Duhawks to a double American Rivers Conference Championship in 2021.
Prior to his coaching career, Higgins was an NAIA Academic All-American goalkeeper for Ashford University, leading Ashford to the NAIA Final Four in 2013. He would go on to lead the Quad City Eagles to the NPSL Midwest Conference Championship in the summer of 2014.
Higgins graduated from Ashford in May of 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and endorsements in coaching and health. Higgins received a master's degree in Strategic Leadership from Mount Mercy in June of 2018.
