AZUSA, Calif. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team opened competition at a pair of meets in southern California on Thursday.
 
At the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University, NDSU senior Hunter Klimek ran a personal-best 14:13.66 in the 5,000m to move up to fourth in NDSU history. He trimmed 13 seconds off his previous best in the event.
 
Bison senior Tyson Mahar ran a personal-best 14:32.50 in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
At the Pacific Coast Invitational hosted by Long Beach State, Sam Roller took second in the javelin with a throw of 212-1 (64.65m) – the second-best mark of his career.
 
Redshirt freshman Brooks Turner took fourth place in the 110m hurdles at the Pacific Coast Invitational, clocking 13.95. Brock Johnsen ran 14.15 for the second-fastest time of his career, and Zach McGlynn posted a new personal-best of 14.56.
 
Zack Ramos threw a season-best 58-03.00 (17.75m) in the shot put for fifth place.
 
Adam Dugger (48-9 / 14.86m) and Carlton Mukurazita (48-6 / 14.78m) finished fourth and fifth in the triple jump.
 
Competition will continue in Long Beach and Azusa on Friday.
