OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha scored six runs in the opening inning and didn't look back as the North Dakota State baseball team came up short, 11-1, in seven innings at Tal Anderson Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks (11-18, 5-7 Summit) plated six runs on four hits in the opening inning to sprint out to a 6-0 lead after Drew Borner lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to left field. Omaha then extended its lead to 8-0 after an RBI triple from Jackson Trout and Tyler Bishop connected on an RBI single in the fourth. Colten Becker attempted to rally the Bison (9-18, 7-4 Summit) with his third home run of the season to right field to cut the deficit to 8-1 in the sixth frame. However, the Mavericks went to close out the Bison in the seven-inning run-rule game, 11-1.
The Bison notched four hits as a team with Becker going 2-of-3 at the plate.
Parker Puetz (0-1) made his season debut after making the start on the mound. Landon Koenig also provided 4.2 innings of relief with three strikeouts.
NDSU will continue its road swing at Creighton on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
