NDSU Baseball Falls at Stetson, 8-4

DELAND, Fla. – Stetson scored five runs in the first inning to top the North Dakota State baseball team, 8-4, on Friday night at Melching Field.
The Hatters (1-5) plated five runs in the first inning after Samuel Fernandez closed the frame with a three-run homer to left field to make the score 5-0. Kaden Connor sparked the Bison (0-6) with his first career home run to right field in the second frame. The two-run shot cut the deficit to 5-2 after two innings. The two teams then traded runs until Noah Gordon delivered an RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 6-4. However, Landon Russell answered for Stetson with a two-run home run in the eighth inning to put the contest out of reach and seal the 8-4 win.
The Bison totaled 10 hits as a team with Diego Trujillo going 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs. Corbin and Colten Becker also contributed two hits each.
Parker Puetz (0-1) made the start tossing two strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Sheamus Ryan provided 3.2 innings of relief with four strikeouts, while Easton Reimers finished the final 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.
NDSU will continue play at the Stetson Tournament against Monmouth tomorrow. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT
