NDSU Baseball Tops South Dakota State in Series Opener, 8-1

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team earned its third straight win after topping South Dakota State, 8-1, on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 1,032 fans.
The Bison (10-26, 6-10 Summit) scored in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead after Tyman Long reached on a throwing error to score Diego Trujillo in the third inning. South Dakota State (16-26, 7-11 Summit) answered in the fourth with an RBI single off the bat of Dayton Franke to cut the edge to 4-1.
The contest then went scoreless for three innings until NDSU cracked it open with four runs on two hits in the eighth inning. Kyle Law started the big frame with an RBI single before Trujillo reached on a throwing error to send Colten Becker home. Chase Womack finished out the inning with a two RBI single to increase the lead to 8-1. The Bison closed out the final frame to earn the 8-1 victory in the series opener.
NDSU reached double digits in hits for the third straight game with 11. Womack led the way going 2-of-5 at the plate with a team-best two RBI, while Caleb Corbin also went 2-of-3 with one run and one RBI.
Brayden Marks (3-4) made the start with three strikeouts, one walk and one run across 6.0 innings. Sheamus Ryan earned his team-best third save of the season with 3.0 scoreless frames and two strikeouts.
NDSU will continue its series against South Dakota State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
