South Dakota State Edges NDSU Baseball on Saturday, 5-4

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision against South Dakota State on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Bison (10-27, 6-11 Summit) got off to a fast start for the second straight game after Chase Womack drove in two runs on an RBI single for the 2-0 lead in the first inning. Caleb Corbin followed it up in the second frame with an RBI double down the right field line to extend the edge to 3-0. Evan Gustafson then pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning with an RBI single into left field.
South Dakota State (17-26, 8-11 Summit) got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Nic Werk to make the score 4-1. The Jackrabbits then pushed across three runs on four hits in the fifth inning to lock the contest, 4-4, after Carter Taylor lifted an RBI single to left center. Nate Wachter stole the lead, 5-4, for South Dakota State in the sixth inning with an RBI single. NDSU couldn't get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 5-4.
The Bison notched six hits as a team with Womack going 1-of-4 at the plate with two RBI.
Parker Puetz made the start with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Zak Szabo (2-3) also provided 3.1 innings of relief with four strikeouts.
NDSU will wrap up its series with South Dakota State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
