Jamie Trachsel enters her sixth season as co-head coach for North Dakota State. She has a 182-94 record including a 81-19 ledger in The Summit League. It is Trachsel's 15th season with the program, including three as associate head coach, four as a full-time assistant and two seasons as a graduate assistant.
North Dakota State won four straight Summit League tournament championships from 2009-12 and made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Division Softball tournament. NDSU won the 2015 Summit League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Eugene Regional, falling to host Oregon in the championship game. The Bison won the 2009 NCAA Norman Regional and advanced to the NCAA Tempe Super Regional. NDSU won a school Division I single-season record 45 games in 2015.
North Dakota State ranked No. 41 in the final NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), achieving the highest ranking in the softball program's history. The previous best was No. 62 during the 2013 season.
Trachsel is responsible for team defense, recruiting and coordinating scouting. She works with the catchers, infielders and outfielders, and also calls the pitches. In 2012, the Bison worked through 30 different starting lineups, and still ranked second in The Summit League and ranked among the top 60 nationally in fielding percentage. In 2009, NDSU led The Summit League and ranked 8th in NCAA Division I statistics with a .976 fielding percentage. The Bison were also 12th nationally in double plays in 2009.
Highlighting the defense in recent years was the work of all-region and all-league catcher Kelly Cantrell, who threw out 77 of 161 opposing baserunners attempting to steal from 2006 to 2009. Cantrell, who had a .993 career fielding percentage, picked off an incredible 25 runners off base.
Overall, Trachsel has coached four All-Americans and 15 All-Region players. That list includes nine student-athletes who earned Summit League, Division I Independent or North Central Conference Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Freshman/Newcomer of the Year honors. She has been an integral part of coaching staffs that have received recognition from the NFCA, The Summit League, the North Central Conference and Division I Independent.
Off the field, Trachsel has coordinated the volunteer hours/opportunities for the softball program in the community. She was instrumental in setting up a system of collecting toiletry items that are distributed to the women's shelter and Churches United Homeless Shelter.
