Kansas Erases Early Deficit to Take Game 2 of Series

LAWRENCE, Kan.--The Kansas Jayhawks spoiled another early North Dakota State rally to defeat the Bison 7-5 in the second of a three-game college baseball series Saturday, March 12, at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks (15-8) erased a three-run deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on two more in the third to go ahead for good.
NDSU (0-9-1) jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Jared Sullivan's inside-out single through the right side scored Tim Erickson and Charles Magedanz, and Sullivan scored a few batters later on a balk.
Kansas' first five hitters in the second reached safely including consecutive doubles by Andy Scholl and Ryne Price to start the inning.
KU chased Bison starter Brandon Goltz in the third when the Jayhawks led off with a double and two singles to get a two-run rally started.
Goltz was charged with six runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out two and lost for the third time in three starts.
Reliver Scott Sharpe was the winner for Kansas. He worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and struck out one.
KU's bullpen held the Bison to two singles in the last four innings. Right-hander Don Czyz (chez) earned his third save of the year with five strikeouts in three scoreless innings.
Magedanz and Kole Zimmerman both hit 3-for-5 in the game and Magedanz scored three times.
Andy Scholl was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of runs for KU, and Ryne Price was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
The third and final game of the series is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.
